The Need for a Proof-based Faith

How can we know that there’s a God and that the Bible is a book of Truth? I mean, to think that there is someone looking out for us (who is the creator of the universe) and is involved in our growth and work for Him, and who has prepared a great afterlife for us is an incredible thought.

But based on proofs, it is the only fully intelligent thought.

And because of accepting those proofs and having faith that living by the Bible is the best and truest way to go, the good internal and external results are further proof that it is all true. Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.” That is, the fact that when putting our faith in God and the Bible results in creating a good, secure, confident, peaceful and inspired feeling inside of us is further proof that we’ve made the right decision in our experiment in how to think and live. And are those the results that people are experiencing by approaching life the secular way and believing how the “mainstream” education institutions and media are explaining existence?

And regarding “belief”, we don’t have to be relegated to a lucky gamble or a feeling as to what the truth is, because there is proof. And this proof goes to the nth degree in science, logic, statistics, pragmatism and experience … leaving no stone unturned.

This is why an intelligent person needs proof … because it is proof that justifies faith. Unanswered or avoided skeleton questions in our logic closet will just undermine our faith and prevent us from having a super strong foundation. They also cause people to question specific things in the Bible. That’s why they need to know why the Bible is infallible.

Proof can also be the basis for proving God and the Bible to skeptics and those who have attempted to resolve their death and style of living through the mythical and semi-dysfunctional systems of the mainstream culture and institutions. Or perhaps they are avoiding this issue as they are caught up in the many distractions in life.

The Christmas Trade

I was sitting in my front room earlier and I fell asleep. When I woke up, the channel on my TV was set on the Seasonal Favorites music channel. The song that was playing was “Have a holly, jolly Christmas.” And my feeling was how disgustingly blasphemous this song was to the real meaning of Christmas. I had tolerated this channel because it had a number of sacred carols too.

But then it hit me. Of course people aren’t going to give up the sacred beauty of Christmas unless an enticing alternative is given to them by satan’s world – happy, non-religious songs, presents, sports and santa.

And this enticement starts with children – presents, santa and candy.

And really, Easter was stolen in the same way – by a bunny and candy.

And we could continue on with how other religious holidays (holy days) were traded in for secular fiction, traditions and “goodies” (which really turn out to be physiological “badies”) – Halloween and Valentine’s Day.

What this boils down to is: the culture has increasingly traded in love for sensationalism.

So that all inspired me to write a poem that spelled out some of the worse trades ever.

They traded Christmas for happy songs and presents
They traded Easter for a bunny and candy
They traded sex with love for porn
They traded marriage for “the grass is greener”
They traded eternity for impulse
They traded peace for hyperness
They traded real life for fiction
They traded health for junk food
They traded personal achievement for sports
They traded God for self-sovereignty and intimidation by others
… and the Bible says, <em>“They traded God’s truth for a lie, and they worshipped and served the creation instead of the creator”</em> Romans 1:25.

Too bad that many don’t realize that when we abandon the smoke screens and do it God’s way, He rewards us with peace, love, confidence, security, joy, clarity and a great eternity. Against these things “the world’s” ways can’t compete 🙂

A conflict between a mainstream myth and a musical/philosophical expression by a cultural icon

On the TV show “The Voice” a singer was going to sing John Lennon’s “Imagine”. He said that he was a huge fan of John Lennon. His coach, Shakira, said, “Well I’m sure that he’s proudly looking down on you now.” Then the singer started singing “Imagine” with the opening line “Imagine there’s no heaven.” So then where was John Lennon looking down on him from?

Why do young people look up to cultural icons with reverence instead of the only perfect role model – Jesus? Especially since those icons are usually leading dysfunctional, destructive lifestyles. Have you heard of “The 27 Club”? Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, and many more, all died at the age of 27 … and mainly from overdoses.

I think that the reason why young people look up to them is because they appear to be free in that they can express themselves without intimidation from the world. But they are confusing musical talent with true freedom. And their freedom is often found in a bottle or with drugs.

I too looked up to them when I was young, and to the point of leaving my career in engineering to become a member of some very famous bands (Sly & The Family Stone, The Elvin Bishop Group, Rubicon, and The Tokens – famous for The Lion Sleeps Tonight). But the freedom wasn’t there, like I thought it would be. Hence I ended up trying 20 different approaches to truth and lifestyle before finally finding it 30 years ago in Christianity.

(You can be a part of helping to spread that by showing that web page to your pastor or school. For example, how many people realize that science is on the side of God and the Bible and not modern science theories, many of which are science fiction?)

I think that young people go through a period of rejecting the status quo in search of freedom and self-gratification. But in the process of running from, do they ever find a place to run to … or do they get caught up in addiction because they didn’t find the place to run to? (I have a cure for that too: http://www.AddictionFreeForever.com) The paradox here is that the most free that a person can be is in submitting themselves to God’s holy rules, which He then in turn responds by filling our hearts with peace, love and harmony with our being.

The problem now though is that the spirit of rebellion of the ‘60s has become mainstream. And now kids are looked at as “different” if they don’t go along with the immorality of today. Whereas the opposite was the case when I was growing up in the ‘50s if kids were immoral or atheistic.

Why God Is Necessary

Because I’ve developed a highly successful addiction recovery program (www.AddictionFreeForever.com), I was asked in a recent radio interview if God is necessary for recovery. And if so, in what form?

I thought this was a great question, and I saw how this really wasn’t just about addiction recovery but about life for everyone.

I said that in order to permanently not have a weakness for alcohol or drugs or the many other things that a person can be addicted to, a person must be living in harmony with how their heart and body were designed to operate.

Now a person can discover some specifics of how to do that on their own or through an organization or teaching. But that doesn’t address the issue of the meaning of life. That is, is life supposed to just be a series of activities whose sum result is more pleasure than pain? Or is there a reason why we’ve been placed on this planet (we obviously didn’t place ourselves), amid an unfathomably large universe, from where we will one day be forced to leave? That is, from our creator’s perspective, is there something that we need to accomplish while we are here? And is our creator prompting us in some way to make that accomplishment?

That prompting was put well by St. Augustine who said, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in thee.” Therefore we each carry a restlessness in our heart that somehow needs to be satisfied. We can either satisfy it in its naturally intended way, or we can attempt an artificial satisfaction for it through worshiping something on Earth (like entertainers or sports teams), or we can attempt to sweep under a drug or addiction the restlessness and drown out its voice.

The rewards for satisfying it in its naturally intended way is: we set up a great afterlife for ourselves; our hearts are filled with perfect guidance, peace and love; and the restlessness goes away. And in fact, those last two indicators would be evidence that we did actually satisfy it in the way that our creator wanted it to be satisfied (which is why He made those upgrades in our heart). And in my search through 20 different lifestyles and attempts at truth, there was only one thing that created those last two indicators. And that was: a recognition that the Bible is a communication to us from God, and that only following it to the letter and making Jesus the head of our life works. And that worked for me in a way that nothing else did.

That search and experiment with life is something that we’ve each been given one lifetime to do. And then our eternity will be determined based on how we chose to go through life and what we made our highest priority and gave our allegiance to.

What I miss about the hippie days

For those of us who are old enough to remember … in spite of all of its faults (and there were a number of them), I think what I miss most about the hippie days is: a rejection of worldliness and shallowness, and a deep, serious inquiry about life and its deeper mysteries and meanings and purer manifestations … an …interest and curiosity (accompanied by a deep feeling) which seems to be greatly missing from the world today. But it was popular and even commonplace in many circles back then. In fact there was a peer pressure to reject shallowness and embrace depth. I miss all of that. Everyone’s Choice

I was emailed this recently:

“I would rather live my life as if there is a God,

and die to find out there isn’t,

than live my life as if there isn’t,

and die to find out there is.”

(2)   Listening attentively to His “still, small voice” in your heart

(3)   Observing what He causes to automatically happen in your body and heart (the specifics of which He designed. I’m not speaking about things that are triggered within us due to bad programming, traumas, or wrong thinking. Although, He designed the responses that would happen within us as a result of those also.)

(4)   Observing what He causes to happen in nature (which He also designed)

There Is Nothing Greater!

There’s nothing greater than the PEACE and SECURITY of being able to fall back on a perfect, just and loving God all the time. What also is great is: knowing that incredibly pleasurable states exist that are so beautiful that they are not only greater than anything that we’ve experienced, but they are beyond anything that we can imagine … and the Bible says that they are in our future.

(The degree to which we have that peace and security is the degree that we haven’t any doubt that what was just said is all true, added to the degree that we have PROOF that it is all true. Towards the end of eliminating doubt and increasing proof and confidence that everything in the Bible is true, this has all been PROVEN to be true … even scientifically, and beyond any doubt … in my book THE PROOF that God exists and the Bible is true, which can be seen at www.ConclusiveProofOfGod.com.
